Blog POst #2

"NIght to his day" is mostly about gender and the influence it has in society. gender basically makes up peoples lifes, because it tells everyone how they have to act and dress, and be according to their gender in order to be their gender. in the text, the author discusses how people just assume the gender of a person by just looking at what they wear or how they walk and behave, etc. For example she describes a Man in the bus with a baby and how everyone was looking at him and being proud of him because he is a man, and men dont usually take care and spend a day alone with their baby. She also guessed the babys gender by just taking a look at the clothes, assuming it was a boy because of the cap the baby had on. but the author was wrong, she then saw that the baby had girl socks on, and earings that's when she noticed that the baby was a girl. throughout the reading the author added that after a person is born, they dont know how they are suppose to behave, how people from their gender behave. so the people around them tell them how they have to be to be like their gender. Also That is why people act like they do, and behave like they do, to fit into their gender and into society.

  1. This is more of a summary than a response to Lorber's reading. I labeled this post incorrectly as Blog Post #3 on our syllabus but it is in fact Blog Post #2. When you get a chance can you please correct this? You write "throughout the reading the author added how everyone just acts how they are tought to act from birth to be like their gender, and how everyone is basically how they are behaving, acting and feeling according to their sex to kind off just fit in society." Can you reread this and rephrase it? At first you talk about gender but then you shift to sex?

  2. i Meant to say gender, its that i think they are kind of the same thing so i use either or.
and what i meant was that the author was trying to say that, according to ones gender, that is how they are tought to behave and act. for example if you ar a male, the people around you tell you to play with certain toys that females dont play with, and to act in a way that females wouldnt. Also That people just act and behave how their gender is suppose to just fit in society.
