Men need eachother as close friends to help each other when one needs help and boost eachothers confidence. Men depend on other men for masculine approval. Both the movie The Hangover and the reading "The Girl Hunt: Urban Nightlife and performance of Masculinity as Collective Activity" proves this.  In The Hangover it shows us a group of friends who go through many problems and many things just to find their missing friend. Together they unite all the clues they have in order to get that end result which is finding their friend. Grazian's reading talks about yound men preparing to go meet new girls, the way they do it and how they act infront of their friends in order to meet a girl. In the reading young men would drink before going out at night and their purpose was to get drunk in order to boost up their confidence and to go out and have a good time. Meeting girls is part of their plan aswell because they have to prove to their friends that they can get girls. In The Hangover the four friends planned to drink that night so they can boost their confidence and have a good night before one of the friends (Doug) gets married. This shows us that men use alcohol as a way to boost their confidence before they go out in groups. One of the guys name Stu, was the most shy guy. Once he drank with them and went out he  met a girl in a club and married her. Tours the end of the movie the guys liked the girl and they hated his fiance so they encouraged him to leave his fiance for the girl he just met and he did. In the reading men encouraged other men to talk to a girl in the club and when they did, the friends would act as if they were proud of them and approve of this. This just shows us that men depend on their guy friends and  need the approval of them, girls are just a way to prove their masculinity even further.

Course Reflcetions

1) What was the one assignment that was fun to do and why? what did you learn from this assignment? - An assignment that was fun to do was the photo analysis paper because i've never done something like that. It was interesting having to choose a picture and deeply analyze it.  I learned that you can get a lot of information about a person from just really looking and analyzing their photograph.
2) What was the one assignment that you did not care for? why?
- I did not care for the annotated bibliography of the research papers because at first i didnt really know how to do them and i thought it was difficult finding sources in a short amount of time and doing the annotated bibliography for each one.

3) Do you think, overall, Blogger was a useful tool for this class? In what ways?
- I think blogger was a useful tool, it was helpful and easier to post assignments on time rather than to write it down and hand it in.

4) Describe one kind of assignment or task that we did NOT do that you either did on your own OR an assignment you would have liked to have done, or a TYPE of assignment you would have liked to have done more of?
- an assignment i would like to do more of is research paper in groups, i think it was easier faster and more fun to do.

Me: Oh My god, tell me all about yesterday??? how did it go in Andrea's birthday at the club???
Friend: The party was Awesome!! but guess what was even better???
Me: hmm you sound exited, i don't know tell me!!
Friend: So, i was dancing with the girls in the middle of the dance floor, and i notice this interesting young man walking in the club who cached my attention.
Me: really? and what did the other girls think?
Friend: Well they were Staring once he walked in too, because he did not come alone, he walked in with a group of guy friends who did not look bad themselves .
Me: hmm a group of young guys walkin in with him, interesting ... and then what happened?
Friend: Well they sat at the bar section for a while, drinking and then they noticed us, i smile at him and then they seem to be talking about us. They suddenly approached us very confidently and one of the friends of the young men came up to me.
Me: why would his friend talk to you instead of him doing it himself? what did the friend say?
Friend:i dont know, that's what i thought but then i didnt mind. He told me that his friend was checking me out since he walked and that he wanted to get to know me.
Me: o wow that doesnt sound do confident of him to send his friend to talk to you for him ... What did you tell him??
Friend: Well he was really cute, so i told his friend that i would talk to him. So he calls him over and while hes walking tours me the other guys seem to partner up with all of the girls i came with and offered them a few drinks.
Me: oh finally he approaches you! What did the young men tell you, and what did he look like?
Friend: He looked very cute and confident as he walked tours me, he looked like he really put time in getting ready. I liked everything about him, except the fact he really smelled like alcohol, but i did not really mind because its natural everyone usually drinks at a club. Then he asked me "Hey beautiful, i noticed you the minute i walked in.. i was wondering if you wanted to dance?"
Me: ha sounds like a line many guys would use, and what you say?
Friend: i thought it was really cute, well you know i could not reject him so i accepted and while we were dancing his friends were with mine and looking at him as though they were proud of him.
Me: You see the way you say his friends looked at him sounds very fishy, is like they made a plan to meet to get you guys to talk, but tell me how did the night end?
Friend: I don't think so well at the end he asked for my number and we exchanged numbers. While leaving the club his friends were giving him high five, i was just laughing. He'll probably call me today, i will never forget that guy it was like love at first sight.
me: i hope he calls you! Im happy you met  a guy you really like and i hope he does call you and doesnt dissapoint like most guys do.
Friend: Yeah i know he will call, he showed a lot of interest! you should off came, you probably would've met the guy of your dreams.
Me: Nah, i don't think i would meet the guy of my dreams in a club.
Friend: Well, you never know.

(1)i think this offers a good summary about the movie in the first paragraph. It introduces the characters well and their position in the movie. The essay describes the situation.
(2) You do a well job in describing whose ethics in the movie follow consequentialism and which characters in the movie follow ethical absolutism. good examples in defining these two ideas.
(3)This essay also states that the movie takes sides in consequentialism. You have a good example as to why you think the movie takes side on consequentialism.

Blog Post # 9 Coltrane

Fathers are becoming more involved in child development due to the fact that the care for the child has to be equally divided between the father and the mother.  Income is associated with the father's involvement in child development. The mother having to work as well as the father increases the father's involvement in child development. The parent's equally divide the child care since they both have to work therefore the father gets to spend more time with the child. As the author stated "when financial stability is hard to achieve fathers only minimally with their children may be seen as good fathers because they work hard to provide financially."(437) This statement is influential for the child's future life chances. Research states that Adolescents with involved fathers are more likely to have positive development outcomes.

Men have it more fair than women do because they get accepted easier in women dominating jobs. Men are accepted more in women dominating jobs than women in men dominating jobs. Some people like to hire men in women jobs because they think men get the job done well or they just think its nice having a men in a women job and its different. women in the other hand do not have it as fair when working in men-dominating jobs because people sometimes underestimate their skills. Males are encouraged to move up position (glass escalator) when they are in a female-dominated job. women always remain in the same position(glass ceiling). Sometimes men are even judged or made fun off for having these women-dominating jobs. men sometimes don't even try pursuing some jobs because they are seen as women jobs but they are still accepted unlike the women in the male dominating jobs. This source its useful, because their is many information from many research and interviews therefore you can trust it. This article can help shape up my thesis because this article includes many interviews where some of the men agreed to the fact that they were accepted and got the job very quick and by the fact that they were the only men, and because of that they got promoted to a higher position while women remained in the same position.

Blog Post # 7- Zinns reading

Masculinity plays a big role for the men described in this reading. The Chicano men are described as the "Macho" men. In the reading, research proved that  these men have all the power in the house, and in decision making tours the family if their wife are unemployed and if they get more payed then their wives. If the wife is employed, getting payed more than the men do, then it switches up to the power being equally shared between them and decisions tours the family being equally decided as well. Their way of life has an influence on their masculinity. At Work The higher class are treated better then they do. They work hard and get payed less. When they get home they take it upon their family, being controlling and the "Boss" at home just how they are treated at work. This is how these men prove their masculinity, by being these "Macho" men and having all the power at home, in making all the family decisions.

Blog Post # 5- Espiritu's Reading

As Well as African Americans, Asian Americans did not have it easy either.Through out history Black male struggled from slavery and racism and having to seperate from their wives and children. Black Male had to deal with rejection in society just because of the color of their skin. As soon as Japan bombed Pearl Harbor, the American government switched it up for the Japanese who were already US citizens. The Japanese living in America had their freedoms taken away and were sent to concentration camps during World War II just because the US government didnt want the Japanese people that were living in America to be a threat to the US. Just like the Black male, Asian male also had to go through many struggles like being away from their families and getting fired from jobs and just having their freedoms taken away from one day to another.  People deprived these group of men from their privileges  and stripped them of their masculinity. These men were no longer seen as men, but where seen as a race.  By looking at these two ethnic groups, We could just see how racist America is with other Races and the struggles people especially males have to overcome to fit into this society.

Who's the man?

What makes a male the Man? In Theroux reading, "The Male Myth" Theroux talks about how "little boys are turned into men" and the negative influence it has on these men because these men just try to prove society how manly they are. In Marable's reading "The Black Male" he talks about the struggles of the black men in the past and how influences them today. I think the real Man is the one described in "The Black Male" because unlike the male described in Theroux reading, The black Male sort of build themselves into becoming a man. Also in Marable's building he talks about how white man were afraid of black men stealing their wives because black men were just so strong and manly and women liked this. Black Men are the real men because they face many struggles, that make them strong and learn that they have to be manly enough so go through these struggles. Besides proving society how manly they are they also have to face racism. In Theroux reading men are just told how they have to behave to fit into society, and they have to meet society's expectations. So in Theroux reading the man's only struggle is to prove how manly they are. Which makes the man in "The Black Male" the real man.

Blog Post # 4- Marable's Reading

Although in a way there has been a huge change in the way black men are viewed in society, they're still many things that still in a way remain the same. Somethings that have changed for example are black men rights. In the past black men didn't even have the right to vote. Like in the reading "The Black Male" It said "They warned whites that giving the vote to the black male would lead to widespread rape and sexual assaults against white women of the upper class"(19). So black men didn't have a voice in politics back then. Today Black men have equal rights and we even have a black president. Back then that was impossible to happen so that really shows that there has been a huge change in society. Although there has been a huge change, somethings have remained the same, Men didnt have rights and were always treated lower than everyone else this connects to the way they treat black women. Black women are the only people below the black male therefore black male treat them the way they used to be treated befor they had any rights. For example the way black men treat black women In the past, black men never showed their feelings to their wifes or affection and they would beat their wife because black men were always beat as slaves by their white masters and the only people they can take it on was the only people that were below them, black women. For Example in "The Black Male" Marable stated that "Black  women suffered from the economic exploitation and racism Black males experienced- but they also were trapped by institutional sexism and all of the various means of violence that have been used to oppress all women, such as rape "wife beating" and all sterlization."(20) Today we still see things like this happening in the black race, Men beating their wifes. Or Leaving their wifes alone to struggle with the children alone. In the reading Marable said "Black men must understand that they too must overcome their own inherent and deeply ingrained sexism recognizing that black women must be equal partners in the battle to uproot injustice at every level of society."(23) I think that instead of going against their opposite Sex because of struggles in the past, Black Men should unite with black women as a race to prove society wrong, So that more change can keep occurring.

Blog Post # 3- Theroux Reading

Paul Theroux does not agree with the way people turn boys into men. I agree with him because as he mentioned in the reading about sports, he talks about sports as a negative thing for boys. Theroux says that as as a little boy you kind off have no option, you have to be in sports because is the "manly" thing to do and it teaches you to be competitive and its a way to prove how "manly" you are. Theroux does not agree with this, and i don't either because boys should have the option of whether or not they want to get into sports. Their parents should not just push them to do it. Like Theroux said, i do not agree with the way people turn boys into men because that has a negative influence on men. Men will just be going around the world proving to society their "manhood" and that will just be their way of life.

Blog POst #2

"NIght to his day" is mostly about gender and the influence it has in society. gender basically makes up peoples lifes, because it tells everyone how they have to act and dress, and be according to their gender in order to be their gender. in the text, the author discusses how people just assume the gender of a person by just looking at what they wear or how they walk and behave, etc. For example she describes a Man in the bus with a baby and how everyone was looking at him and being proud of him because he is a man, and men dont usually take care and spend a day alone with their baby. She also guessed the babys gender by just taking a look at the clothes, assuming it was a boy because of the cap the baby had on. but the author was wrong, she then saw that the baby had girl socks on, and earings that's when she noticed that the baby was a girl. throughout the reading the author added that after a person is born, they dont know how they are suppose to behave, how people from their gender behave. so the people around them tell them how they have to be to be like their gender. Also That is why people act like they do, and behave like they do, to fit into their gender and into society.

Are Males Born or Made?
I think Males are made because  Once born, their parents and everyone else tell them and teach them what they have to do and how they have to be, or act according to their gender. So After their born their parents and other people kind of make them act and function the way their supposed to. Male are born, but when they are, they don't know how to act, what toys they can play with, how they have to feel, how they have to dress,  etc according to their gender. so that's why they are Made because from birth people start teaching them and filling them with information with how they are supposed to behave as a male. Male are born but then they are tought to be masculine so they can fit in society, that is why i think they are made.
